What is an Aquafacial?
An Aquafacial cleanses the skin, gently exfoliates it and extracts impurities from the pores. Afterwards it gets moisture and nourishing serums. All in one session, so you don’t have to book back and forth between several treatments.
Many names go by that word. Aqua Facial, hydradermabrasion, hydrodermabrasion: it always means this one principle. AQAFACIAL™: what is behind it?
The AQAFACIAL™ facial treatments are based on a technology developed by the Männer Werkstatt specifically for men, for intensive cleansing and nourishing of your men’s skin. It was developed on the basis of several thousand facial treatments. It is meant for exactly the skin that gets the razor every morning.
You are treated by state-certified beauticians and master beauticians. Which serums and which steps your face gets on the day, they decide after the assessment. A nice side effect in everyday life: because the skin surface feels smoother afterwards, the next shave goes more easily.
Needles don’t come into it with AQAFACIAL™. The only exception is “Performance”, where microneedling is deliberately built in. So if you simply want clean, well-cared-for skin, you don’t get a procedure but a thorough service, roughly like the inspection after which your car runs smoothly again and you wonder why you waited so long.
Aquafacial treatment: how AQAFACIAL™ works
Every AQAFACIAL™ variant starts with an assessment and consultation, in which your beautician takes a calm look at your skin and discusses with you what is bothering you right now. Only then does she decide what happens today. After that comes the basic programme that is part of every variant:

What you notice during the appointment:
- You hardly feel the suction of the pores. If anything is uncomfortable anyway, say so and it will be adjusted.
- “Meine Auszeit” and “Strahlemann” include a massage for face, neck and shoulders. That is the part for switching off.
- “Hellwach Booster” and “Strahlemann” also include a booster and LED light.
Depending on the variant, a time-out massage, booster, LED light, mask or lymphatic drainage are added before the finishing care. Straight after the appointment the skin feels smoother and more even.
Depending on skin type, slight redness can occur afterwards. It’s better to skip the sauna and sunbed straight afterwards. If you have an important appearance later the same day, mention it during the assessment and your beautician will plan accordingly.

Rule of thumb from the Werkstatt: For a first appointment or a short lunch break, the “Update” at 30 minutes is enough. If you want to switch off, book “Meine Auszeit” with massage. The “Hellwach Booster” adds booster and LED light on top. “Performance” combines the treatment with microneedling; whether that suits your skin is clarified in the assessment. And the “Strahlemann” is the top of the range. There’s no more to be had.
For the eye area there is the “eyeBOOST”. As an extra it costs €49 (10 min.) and can only be booked together with an AQAFACIAL™ treatment; as a treatment of its own it is €99 (30 min.). The active ingredients make the eye area look more awake and fresher; you take the serum home with you. For the scalp there is the “hairBOOST” (€499, 90 min.), a treatment of its own based on AQAFACIAL™.
What does an Aqua Facial cost?
At the Männer Werkstatt you get AQAFACIAL™ from €99, that is the “eyeBOOST” for the eye area (30 minutes). For the whole face, AQAFACIAL™ costs between €169 (“Update”, 30 minutes) and €349 (“Strahlemann”, 90 minutes). The price depends on the time your beautician spends with you. And on the extras added to the basic programme, that is massage, booster, LED light, lymphatic drainage or microneedling.
When comparing, look at the content, not just the number at the bottom line:
- Is there an assessment and consultation beforehand?
- Are pore extractions included, or only cleansing and a mask?
- How long does the appointment really take?
- Which extras are included, and which cost extra?
Allow for the time around it too. Arriving, hanging your jacket on the hook, choosing a drink. If you only have a short gap at lunchtime, the 30-minute “Update” works well, and if you’ve cleared a whole afternoon anyway, you simply take the “Strahlemann” with everything that goes with it.

Who is AQAFACIAL™ for?
For men’s skin, even if it is rough or more sensitive. Whether and how a treatment is carried out is decided by the assessment before each appointment, though, not by advertising copy.
Tell them openly what is going on with your skin. Is it irritated right now? Which products do you use, are you taking anything? Your beautician adapts the treatment to that or advises you to have a different one.
To prepare: for facial treatments the skin should be as smooth as possible and free of beard hair. It’s best to arrive freshly shaven. You can of course keep your beard. Just say so straight away in the assessment.
How long does it last, and how often should you come?
You notice part of it on the way home, when you stroke your face. How long it lasts depends on your skin and on what you do with it at home. If you come regularly, you get more out of it than from a single appointment.
Like with a car: regular servicing achieves more than a general overhaul every few years. What your service interval looks like is set by your beautician after the assessment, depending on skin, goal and variant. Ask about it at the end of the appointment and book the next one straight away online.

Which method is better depends on what you want. The three work quite differently:

What does an Aqua Facial do?
Clean pores and well-nourished skin. After the appointment the skin feels smoother and looks fresher, and the next shave goes more easily. It remains cosmetic care, though. What needs medical treatment is not replaced by an Aquafacial either.
Is an Aquafacial worth it?
If you want thorough cleansing and care in one appointment, yes. It does the most as a regular service, not as a one-off. Whether AQAFACIAL™ suits your skin or another treatment is better is clarified by your beautician in the assessment before every appointment.
What are the downsides of an Aquafacial?
An Aquafacial cares for the skin. What belongs in a dermatologist’s practice, it does not treat. Depending on skin type the skin is slightly reddened afterwards, and sauna and sunbed are not a good idea on the same day. Then there is the effort: with us an appointment takes 30 to 90 minutes and costs from €99, for the whole face €169 to €349. If you want to enjoy the effect for longer, you come more than once.
Which is better: microneedling or Aquafacial?
Neither is better, they simply do something different. The Aquafacial cleanses and nourishes the skin, entirely without needles. With microneedling, your beautician works with the finest needles. What is an option for you, you discuss in the assessment. And if you want both, take “Performance”: Microneedling meets AQAFACIAL™ Booster, 60 minutes.
What is the difference between hydradermabrasion and microdermabrasion?
With microdermabrasion the top layer of skin is gently removed with fine crystals. Hydradermabrasion combines a gentle exfoliation with suction of the pores and then supplies the skin with moisture and serums. At the Werkstatt, AQAFACIAL™ stands for hydradermabrasion and “Keramik Glow” for microdermabrasion with ceramic crystals.
Can I give AQAFACIAL™ as a gift?
